"Through design we can change stories"

Concept Statement: Julie Berdou

Meaningful Narratives: the perception of a word without context

Each page of the 40 hand-bound pages is individually cut to reveal singular words taken out of their context in order to construct a compelling new story. The readers are encouraged to make up their own journey through the book by mentally piecing together the fragmented words into a coherent narrative. The truth only revealed at the end. What images and emotions are conjured during the process of reading?

The act of reflection & Outcome

The readers are encouraged to reflect on and to write down their emotions and thoughts evoked during their personal journey through the book The aim is to spark a debate by engaging the public to think over an important issue in our society. What will their reaction be as a result of this interaction?
